This week is spirit week here at Northland International University. Today was Space day, you may not believe the incredible creativity of some people. There was an amazing variety of outfits among the student body today ranging from Captain Kirk in Star-Trek to a crazy kid that wanted to be a scientist, from martians to Princess Laya (sp?) from Star Wars. I actually was surprised at the number of people who dressed as a Star-Trek character, I mean, can't you get more creative than wearing a colored t-shirt, and putting a little arrowhead pin on? No offense to those of you who DID do that, or if you actually LIKE Star-Trek...I actually used to work at a place that people lovingly called Star-T(r)ek, LOL!!!
Anyway, the point of this post isn't to talk about Space Day except for the fact that we watched a video in chapel from the Creation Museum in Petersburg, KY. The video served as a GREAT reminder to how small we are in the face of God's majestic, incredible, enormous creation; the video focused specifically on the universe. I actually just read a devotional yesterday on our Adoption into the family of God. How does adoption apply to the Universe, you may say? Let me explain...
In Romans 8:15, it talks about those of us who know Christ as our personal Savior from Sin have received the 'Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, "Abba! Father!"' We are the adopted children of God, because we have recognized how sinful we are, recognized that God sent his only Son Jesus to die on the Cross to pay the penalty for our sins, and have accepted the gift he offered of eternal life. Just as if we were adopted into another family, we are loved as His own child, but it gets better!!! Chapter 11 talks about his enormous love for us, we may reject it, but it is still offered and is 'irrevocable' (v. 29) It's like a check given to you by a friend, and you really don't want them to give it to you...so you give it back? We cannot do that with God, the love he has for us is ALWAYS there, waiting for us to accept it as ours, and open the package...
The video I mentioned before, just showed me how tiny I am in comparison to God's creation. The earth is like a grain of sand in comparison to OUR gallexy, but when you think about the fact that their are millions, billions of other gallexies in the universe, how tiny are you? Not to mention the fact that the universe fits IN HIS HAND!!! (John 10:29)
I was brought to tears by the thought of how small I am in comparison to God's enormous universe, and yet, He loves me...How amazing is that? I'm like a speck of dust compared to the universe, I look at dust as a nuisance, and yet God love me!!!
I hope this quick though has been a blessing to you, I wish I could share the amazing video we watched in chapel, it really brought my relationship with my Heavenly Father into perspective for me!!!
Love in Him,
Jenn
In the account of Noah's Ark, found in Genesis 5-10, God gives Noah a sign; a rainbow, His covenant to all men that he would never again flood the entire earth. The word covenant is used in scripture over 270 times, the word promise is used over 100 times. When we are in the midst of a trial in our lives, sometimes it is the hardest time to recall the promises of God; however, this is the time when it is most important to remember what God has promised to us, especially if you are His child.
Something I have found to be a huge blessing to me, is really studying the message of hymns or biblicaly inspired songs that we sing, or hear on the radio on a daily/weekly basis. It is my hope to use this blog as a way of sharing the lyrics to songs that have been a blessing to me, and how they have blessed me and reminded me of a promise given by God, and in turn be a blessing to others.
